What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Video Competition

Connecticut’s high schools and manufacturers are about to get together and not just tell you… but show you!

Connecticut Dream It. Do It., along with its regional and industry manufacturing partners, is excited to announce the 2019-2020 “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” (WSCAM) Video Competition. The WSCAM Video Competition is a Manufacturing Institute national best practice model designed to promote industry partnerships and introduce youth to today’s manufacturing workplace and careers. The competition runs annually and is open to high school students and manufacturers around the state. Each participating high school is partnered with a local manufacturing company to collaborate on the creation of a video in response to the theme: What’s so cool about manufacturing? The WSCAM Video Competition gives students the chance to learn about their partner company’s products, operations, and staff while exploring all the “cool” things a career in manufacturing offers.

The video competition is targeted to teams of 4-10 students from any high schools in the state of Connecticut. Teams must have a teacher coach to serve as an advisor. If you are interested in participating but have a question about your eligibility, please contact education@ccat.us or 860.282.4918.
No videography experience is required. All you need is a team that is dedicated to showcasing the merits of a career in manufacturing.
There are many free video editing softwares online*. If your team anticipates having trouble finding filming equipment, CT Dream It. Do It. can provide an action camera for use during the competition upon request.
It is required that teams tour the manufacturing company at least once, but are encouraged to meet more than that.
As soon as a team submits an application, the process of finding them a manufacturing company begins. Once teams submit all of their required forms AND a partner is found, the team will be put into contact with their partner company.
All videos must receive approval by the featured company, and should be submitted for their approval no later than April 14th. Any time after the 14th is reserved for last minute edits should the video be rejected by the company. Please do not make any edits to the video after receiving approval unless you intend on resubmitting it to the manufacturing company. Final video submissions are due to CT Dream It. Do It. by April 24th, 2020.
The judging will focus on:  -How well the video meets the theme (What’s so cool about manufacturing)  -How well the video highlights the manufacturing company’s products and technology  -The video’s inclusion of manufacturing careers and pathways  -Overall creativity of the final product  Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and a popular online vote.
